We are particularly excited to track and report on the carbon emissions savings achieved by recycling the glass back into the construction process with our trusted supplier Saint-Gobain. This initiative reflects a growing industry-wide push towards sustainable demolition practices and a circular economy.

Stay tuned for further updates on the demolition progress and the measured carbon emissions savings as we continue to recycle materials from 17 Columbus Court. We are committed to keeping you informed as we continue our journey towards a more sustainable future.

Construction Fun for Little Builders!

Our Site Manager Leighanne Horgan recently visited a local Montessori to share her knowledge about construction with some eager little learners. The kids were delighted to try on the PPE and immerse themselves into the experience.

We believe that introducing kids to Construction at an early age is essential for inspiring them to think about it as a potential career. We encourage all our teams to participate in classes or workshops that introduce young people to the world of construction.

If they can see it, they can be it!

Digging Deep: J Coffey Plant Division’s Commitment to Continuous Training

Our Plant Division prioritises continuous training to keep our team’s skills up-to-date. We understand that continuous training is crucial not only for the longevity and reliability of our equipment but also for the safety and efficiency of our operations.

Giving Our Tools a Second Life

For the past 15 years, we’ve been committed to responsible disposal and recycling of our tools, partnering with Hilti to ensure a sustainable lifecycle for our equipment. We believe in minimising our environmental impact and maximising the lifespan of our resources, and this long-standing collaboration is a testament to that commitment.

We’re proud to share the positive results of our recycling efforts. In 2024 alone, we’ve seen significant progress in giving our old tools a second life:

54 tools have been either refurbished and given a second life, or had parts successfully reused in the remanufacturing of other tools. This extends the functionality of valuable components and reduces the demand for new resources. We’re thrilled to see these tools continue to contribute to projects, even after their initial use with us.

530 tools have been responsibly recycled, with their constituent materials carefully separated and processed. This has resulted in the recovery of valuable resources, including:

Copper: A vital component in electrical wiring and other applications.

Steel: A strong and versatile material, essential for construction and manufacturing.

Plastic: Recycled and repurposed for a variety of new products.

By working with Hilti’s recycling program, we ensure that our old tools are handled responsibly and don’t end up in landfills. This process not only reduces waste but also conserves valuable natural resources and minimizes the environmental impact associated with raw material extraction.

Our commitment to sustainability goes beyond just recycling. We also prioritise the use of durable, high-quality tools that are built to last, reducing the need for frequent replacements. This, combined with our responsible recycling practices, allows us to minimise our overall environmental footprint.

We’re proud of the progress we’ve made in the past 15 years and look forward to continuing our partnership with Hilti to further enhance our sustainability efforts. We believe that responsible practices are essential for a healthy planet, and we’re committed to doing our part to create a more sustainable future. We will continue to track our recycling efforts and share our progress with you, our valued clients. Thank you for your continued support as we strive to build a better future together.

Health & Safety at our Life Sciences Project

Huge Congratulations to Fabio and Emil on their recent recognition from our client Mace on site at The Oxford Science Park (TOSP) for promoting safe practices within the team.

Great work!

Wellbeing for staff continues to be utmost priority for J Coffey Group

As part of a wider programme of wellbeing for all J Coffey staff and partners, we kicked off our onsite wellness days with great success at Judd Street. Every available slot was attended and additional sessions are already being arranged.

The Judd Street Wellbeing Day in February 2025 proved to be a remarkable achievement for our construction team. We successfully engaged with over a third of our onsite team members, providing them with essential health screenings and tailored wellness guidance right at their workplace.

Having health services available on site made a significant impact. Team members could take a break from their tasks, still in their work attire, to receive crucial health assessments. Many discovered health concerns that they might not have been aware of without these screenings.

A significant takeaway was how comfortable people felt discussing mental health in their familiar work environment. For many, this was their first chance to have an open conversation about mental wellbeing with a health professional. The relaxed setting helped break down barriers that might have existed in more formal healthcare settings.

The team provided practical health resources and advice that workers could use – from tips about staying healthy on site to managing work-related stress. Even those who were initially unsure about participating found the sessions worthwhile and left with useful strategies to improve their wellbeing.

The strong turnout shows there’s a real need for this kind of workplace health support. The fact that 38% of the workforce took time to participate speaks volumes about how valuable these services are when they’re easily accessible.

By bringing health services directly to the construction site, we’re making it easier for our workforce to stay on top of their health. The positive feedback and requests for more similar sessions suggest this approach is hitting the mark in supporting our team’s wellbeing.

Health & Safety Recognition
