We’ve kept full use of the hall for exams, assemblies and activities so that’s been positive. The Coffey build has come in on budget. There were no surprises.” Greig City Academy. Design & build contract to provide an additional sixth form facility at the Academy in North London. This project was successfully completed on time, meeting the Client budget and exceeding their quality expectations. Our design solution was to construct the new facility on top of an existing sports hall on a structural steelwork platform. The structural steel framework was founded on piles and ground beams, some of which were inside a link building. The steelwork and pre-fabricated sections of the extension were craned into position, with deliveries and activities phased around daily routine of the school whilst minimising the construction traffic effect on neighbours. We were able to undertake all works without disturbing the academy’s activities and even accommodated some quiet days during exam sittings. The academy campus was occupied throughout the construction programme and our success was based upon co-operative approach and regular liaison with the school’s Building Manager and our site team.
